Group Mentions for Confluence

Insert a group mention

In a Confluence page or blog post, use the insert menu or type /Group mention. In the dialog, search for a group by name, choose it and insert the mention. Publish or save the page.

The app adds a visible comment mentioning the group's people, excluding app accounts and whoever saves the page. The comment appears within seconds to a few minutes, on behalf of the saver and shown as coming from the app. Confluence decides whether and how each person is notified, using their settings and page access. A notification to every member is not guaranteed.

A mention is delivered once. Saving again with the same mention does not send it again. Changing it to another group mentions that group on the next save. Saving without notifying watchers sends nothing. A group mention covers at most 250 people; larger groups are warned about rather than partly mentioned.

Group subscriptions

A space administrator can subscribe a group to a page from the page menu, or to a space from Space settings. The app adds watches for members who were not already watching. New members are included by the hourly sync. Removing a subscription removes only watches the app added. Someone who unwatches stays unwatched; the app does not add their watch back. A subscription covers up to 2,000 members.

If the subscribing administrator loses their permission, the subscription stops syncing; another space administrator can remove it and subscribe again.

My watched pages

Open My watched pages from Confluence Apps. Select pages or blog posts and choose Unwatch selected. Keep the page open until the final counts appear. Space watches are not listed. Newly watched pages can take a little time to appear because this list uses Confluence search.

Known limitations

The editor draws the macro on its own line; the published page shows it inline. Mentions inside comments are not supported. On narrow screens Confluence's page container can scroll sideways, including My watched pages.
